Governor of Hadramout directs tough measures against fishermen

On Monday (November 18th), fishermen staged a protest in front of the headquarters of the local authority in Hadramaut governorate, demanding an end to illegal fishing.

The protesters held banners calling for the competent authorities to carry out their duties by protecting fish that are subjected to illegal fishing through nets, because it catches small and large fish; causing weakness in fish stocks and extinction of some varieties of fish.

The fishermen appealed to the local authority represented by the governor of the governorate, Major General Faraj Al-Bahsani, to direct the Coast Guard and the General Authority for Fisheries to implement the law regulating fishing and exploitation of aquatic organisms and protection and the executive regulations, and decision No. (128) of 2017 on the regulation of the traditional fishing activity in the governorate.

Following the vigil, the governor of Hadramout issued directives to the General Authority for Fisheries and Coast Guard forces to crack down on fishermen manipulators and users of illegal fishing known as "Hawi” containing.

The governor stressed the military and security services to monitor uncontrolled fishermen and fishers who are working to harm the fish and pastures and the extinction of some fish through the use of fishing methods and prohibited means.

He stressed that strict measures will affect offenders who harm the stock of Hadramout fish and violate the laws regulating fishing.
