"The Emirates Crescent" shines in Yemen ... the achievements of the first half of 2020

The Emirates Red Crescent Authority issued a report on humanitarian projects and works implemented in Yemen during the first half of this year.

The projects covered the health, water, education, relief and services sectors, and focused on Hadhramaut Governorate and Yemen's West Coast areas.

Health projects topped the humanitarian work of the Red Crescent in Yemen, where the authority implemented a project to rehabilitate and maintain the blood bank at Ibn Sina Hospital in Hadhramaut Governorate, and supplied it with medical devices and equipment.

The United Arab Emirates, through the Red Crescent Authority, provided medical equipment, in the view of the World Health Organization, in the view of the World Health Organization, to provide health care to nearly one million people.

The report touched on the mobile clinics project implemented by the Emirates Red Crescent in Hadhramaut, to provide medical services to citizens in various regions and districts.

It pointed out that the UAE Red Crescent is currently building Ghail Bawazeer Hospital, in addition to the restoration and maintenance of a number of medical and health centers in Hadhramaut, including the Eastern Dis Hospital, the General Shahr Hospital and the Hadhramaut Maternity and Childhood Hospital.

The humanitarian work of the Emirati Red Crescent in the health sector in Hadhramaut Governorate included the provision of charitable heart diseases in Al-Mukalla with shipments of quality medicines (protamine sulfate) used in open-heart operations.

The authority also implemented a health awareness campaign among citizens to prevent Corona with the participation of the staff of mobile clinics and volunteer teams.

 The UAE Red Crescent completed the installation of solar systems for the Hawarem well in the Directorate of Al-Qaff in the Hadhramaut Desert, after the authority adopted a project to drill the well at a depth of 420 meters and operate the project with a production of 5.3 liters of fresh water per second, to provide the residents of the remote area with drinking water, and the project benefits approximately 4 thousand people.

In the first half of this year, the authority organized the sixth mass wedding at the level of Hadhramaut Governorate, and the twenty-second at the level of Yemen, and 200 young people in Mukalla benefited from it.

The humanitarian work included the distribution of sweets and holiday gifts (1000 birthday gift boxes) to the people of many remote villages in the districts of Mukalla - Al-Hajar - Ghail Bawazeer - Al-Shahr.


Relief sector


 In the humanitarian relief sector, the authority distributed 24,410 integrated food parcels to poor and affected families in Hadhramaut during the first half of 2020, benefiting 1,32050 individuals.

It also provided 50 shelters for fully equipped displaced people, in addition to distributing 3 thousand cartons of fine dates and 1000 iftar meals during last Ramadan.



Emirati Crescent projects in the West Coast


 The mid-term report touched on the projects implemented by the Emirati Red Crescent in the liberated areas of the western coast of Yemen.

The projects included the rehabilitation and furnishing of five schools, and the distribution of the school bag to 2867 students, in addition to organizing the Holy Quran Competition in the month of Ramadan in the districts of Hays and Khokha, south of Hodeidah.

The authority also implemented a project to eradicate illiteracy and memorization of the Noble Quran in the districts of the western coast of Yemen for 400 women and girls from the districts of Hays, Khokha and Tuhita, and honored them with sums of money.



The medical sector 


 The UAE Red Crescent also implemented a health awareness campaign to prevent corona, in the districts of the governorates of Al-Hodeidah and Taiz, with the participation of the staff of mobile clinics and volunteer teams, targeting 140,000 people.

Sanitary work in the West Coast included supplying mocha hospitals with drug shipments and implementing a foggy spray campaign to fight mosquitoes, in addition to a health campaign to combat fevers, epidemics, cholera and hygiene campaigns in Mocha directorates, distributor and door, and weaving and preaching.

The Emirati Red Crescent also opened a masks production factory in Al-Khokha district to employ 30 women and girls of low income.

The authority also implemented the mobile clinics project in Mouzea Directorate, and provided the Al-Ardi Health Center with a shipment of medicines and laboratory solutions.



Services sector


 During the first half of this year, the Emirati Crescent completed the Al-Shuqairaa water project in the Al-Wazi’ah Directorate in western Taiz, supplying approximately 16,000 people with drinking water, and the electrical transfer station project for Mocha Steam Station was also completed.

The authority provided 100 boxes of fishing tools and food baskets for fishermen in Mocha district, in addition to implementing a fish landing project in Al-Faza region, south of Al-Hodeidah.



Relief sector


Field teams of the UAE Red Crescent distributed 5,000 complete food parcels to poor and affected families on the West Coast, and provided 43 fully equipped shelter tents for the displaced.

During Ramadan, the field teams of the Emirati Red Crescent distributed 158 tons of fine dates and 25,000 iftar meals on the western coast of Yemen.
