Marib is bleeding .. Houthi terrorism claims 918 victims in 5 years

A human rights report recorded 918 casualties in the missile and artillery shelling of the Houthi militia, the Iranian arm in Yemen, on neighborhoods, villages and population centers in Marib Governorate within 5 years.


The report, issued on Friday, by the Yemen Rights Organization for Rights and Development - in partnership with two protection organizations for civil orientation and Shahid for Rights and Development during the period from April 2015 to April 2020, documented a series of crimes by the Houthi militia against residential gatherings in a number of directorates in Marib Governorate.


The human rights report monitored the killing of 340 civilians, including 43 children, 30 women and 21 elderly, and the injury of 578 others as a result of being exposed to various missiles and projectiles launched by the Houthi militia on villages and densely populated neighborhoods, and most of them were displaced in the districts (Marib city, Serwah, Medghal, Majzar, Huraib, Al Abdiyah and Mahliya, Al-Jubah and Marib Al-Wadi).


The staggering numbers of victims show the extent of the Houthi militia’s use of excessive force against the civilian population, deliberately attacking the right to life and anxieties of peace and stability through continuous rocket and artillery attacks.

The report considered this a real threat to the life, safety and security of nearly two and a half million people, most of whom were displaced from the areas controlled by the Houthi militia, in search of a safe haven and a stable life.

The report revealed that Marib governorate was bombed by 288 ballistic missiles, 495 Katyusha rockets, 103 artillery shells, and 11 other shells that landed in the middle of these residential objects, markets and camps.


Regarding the material losses, the report referred to the destruction of more than 31 public facilities, including nine educational facilities, 9 health facilities, six government headquarters, six mosques and one archaeological landmark, and partial damage to 67 other public facilities distributed among 15 educational facilities, 12 health facilities, and 14 government headquarters, as well as 22 mosques and 4 archaeological landmarks.


A total of 68 private establishments were completely destroyed, in addition to 54 residential homes and 14 shops, including (grocery stores, restaurants, cafeterias, tourist hotels, gas stations, furniture exhibitions, pharmacies, and various workshops) were damaged.

The report showed damage to the means of transport and cars owned by citizens, numbering 51 different means of transport, including the total damage of 15 vehicles and 36 others partially.


It estimated all the material and human damage caused by these attacks at 1,363 cases, and the city of Marib recorded 50% of the total of these injuries, while the rest of the damage was distributed to the rest of the targeted districts in varying proportions.
