Aden, Newsyemen:

Food prices in some areas of Yemen are 140% higher than they were before the war, surpassing crisis levels in 2018 when Yemen last faced a famine warning, according to the United Nations World Food Program.

In its latest update, the program added: The conflict has escalated across more than 40 fronts, the cost of basic food is higher than ever, and the currency has lost 25 percent of its purchasing power in 2020 alone - 70 percent compared to its pre-war value, and it went down to 270 percent against Dollar.

Projections indicate that at least one million other people in Yemen will decline to levels of "crisis" or "close to famine" by December.

Jobs and incomes have halved since the war escalated in 2015, and half a million doctors, teachers, and government employees have not received their salaries for four years.

The economy has shrunk by 45 percent since 2015, and the government estimates that remittances from abroad supported half of the population before the Corona pandemic, and has now decreased by up to 70 percent in the wake of the pandemic.
