Mocha, NewsYemen, Exclusive:

On Monday, the Director of Al-Mocha Directorate, Abdulrahim Al-Fateeh, inaugurated the drilling and repair of four artesian wells at the expense of the local authority.

Al-Fateeh said, during the inauguration process, which was attended by members of the local council and the executive authority, that the local authority is today returning the most important projects that Mocha needs, which is the fresh water project.

He added that upon the completion of the first phase, which is digging the two wells and rehabilitating two other wells, the phase of pipelining will begin at the expense of the Joint Forces Command and the Arab Coalition.

He explained that the launch of the project by the local authority comes in accordance with the capabilities available to it, which will bear the cost of drilling operations, while the joint forces command and the Arab coalition will bear the costs of purchasing and extending the pumping and liquefaction pipes.

For his part, Director of the Mocha Water Corporation, Abdullah Iskandar, said that the launch of the drilling of new wells comes after the water field has become obsolete and the water in it has become salty, as a result of the continuous withdrawal from the wells adjacent to it as well as its proximity to the sea.

He expected the pumping network to be ready by the end of next December, and that at least four months would be the period that the drilling operations would take with the pipelines extended to the main reservoir.

Iskandar called on citizens to commit to paying monthly bills, as this would give his institution the ability to continue working.

In addition, the engineer supervising drilling operations, Yasser Al-Shaibani, said that the production capacity of the four wells is estimated at 140 cubic meters per hour.

He added, that this quantity will suffice the need of nearly 60 thousand people, meaning that it is sufficient to double the population of Mocha.

The start of pumping water will put a solution to one of the problems that the residents of Al-Mokha have been suffering from about a year and a half ago, when the drinking water began to gradually turn to salinity.

The wells in which drilling began in Tubaileya area are about 15 km from the city center. However, the costs of supplying the water network to the main reservoirs will be covered by the Arab coalition represented by the UAE.
