The Houthi militia - Iran's arm in Yemen - raced against time during the last ten days of the month of Ramadan 2021 AD, to collect and deduct Zakat al-Fitrah to citizens in Sana'a and the areas where it is located, in light of the deterioration of living conditions, the increase in the number of the poor and the rise in fuel and food prices to record levels that exceed the range of purchasing power. For citizens.

Contrary to the teachings of Islam, which specified the amount of Zakat ul-Fitrah in several types, seeking differences in individual income in the Islamic community, the Houthi militia decided to determine the amount of Zakat ul-Fitrah based on the price of one type only (excluding the other items), which is (Sa`a of Righteousness), and on Considering the price of a bag of wheat 11,000 riyals, in light of the instability of food prices.

The collection of zakat al-Fitrah, which the Houthi militia raised its value to 550 riyals, is taking place by arbitrary and coercive methods that make the essence of its religious deduction closer to collection, and raising its value doubled the suffering of the population living in extremely poor humanitarian conditions.

While it is an indicator of a flare-up in what could be called the Houthi collection front, employees in Sana'a complained about the repeated collection of Zakat al-Fitrah, deducting its value from half the salary of more than one employee within the same family, and Aqal Harat threatened to deprive residents of the Houthi militia in Sana'a of depriving residents of household gas cylinders. They did not pay zakat ul-fitrah through them.

Professor of Physiology and Tissue Diseases at Sana'a University, Muhammad Sadiq al-Awar, narrated that his work authority (the university) called him to ask about the number of his family members to deduct Zakat al-Fitrah, indicating that his wife, who works in the education sector, received a similar call from her workplace.

In a comment he made on his Facebook wall, the one-eyed academic pointed out that Aqil, the neighborhood in their area - is the other one - threatened to deprive them of the household gas cylinder, unless zakat al-Fitrah is paid according to the data of the family members available in his possession.

The Houthi militia continues to loot the salaries of more than a million government employees since September 2016, and Yemen is experiencing the worst humanitarian crisis in the world, and 80% of its population needs urgent relief aid - according to the United Nations.
