Aden, NewsYemen:

Schoolchildren in Shabwa (southeast of Yemen) were forced to take weapons from homes to education classes, due to the insecurity that the governorate has been experiencing since the Islah militia, the local branch of the Muslim Brotherhood, took control of it.

Local residents said that the security chaos and the spread of gangs and bandits in Shabwa forced many parents to allow their students to carry Kalashnikovs to protect themselves on their way to and from schools.

They pointed out that families' fears for the safety of their children increased with the spread of chaos and the high crime rate to unprecedented levels since the dismantling of the elite forces and the control of the Brotherhood's militia over the governorate.

They pointed out that students walk long distances from homes to schools, and this makes them vulnerable to dangers, especially with the Brotherhood's authority, led by Governor Muhammad Saleh bin Adyo, ignoring its responsibility to put an end to the unrest.

Brigadier General Faisal Halboub published a picture on his Facebook account showing the parts of Kalashnikov-type machine guns for students taking exams in a school in Shabwa.
