Aden, NewsYemen, special:

"The fugitive president who turned into a symbol of the collapse of the state in Afghanistan", with this title, the French news agency highlights the resigned Afghan President Ashraf Ghani as one of the most important titles of the dramatic scene that the world watched in the middle of the week.

A dramatic scene in which events accelerated in a way that the Taliban did not expect, that things would end quickly and reach the heart of the capital two weeks before the scheduled date for evacuating the last US soldier from Afghanistan, which was set at the end of this month.

One of the most important heroes of this scene was the Afghan President Ashraf Ghani, whose escape from the capital, Kabul, marked the end of a scene that lasted 20 years in Afghanistan, which began with the US invasion in 2001 and ended the rule of the Taliban, to end with Ghani’s flight and began with the return of the Taliban to rule.

Three days after the mysterious fate of Ghani, the man appeared yesterday in a video speech from the UAE, which announced hosting him and his family for humanitarian reasons, to justify the scene of his escape as "in order to spare the blood of the people", and to justify his image after he became "a symbol of the collapse of the state despite international aid."  According to the French Agency, in a report on it.

The report says that Ghani "turned within years into a symbol of the collapse of the state in his country despite receiving international aid, and he was known to be an isolationist figure who suffers frequent outbursts of anger and a popularly hated figure as he is arrogant with his fellow citizens."  "Although he sought to rebuild war-weary Afghanistan through reform and combating corruption, he ultimately consolidated his failure to manage the reins of power," says the report, which is one of the most striking features of the man's contradiction before and after his assumption of power.

The man who took office in 2014 was seen as clean-handed, impervious to corruption and largely pragmatic, even vocally critical of the way international aid money was wasted in Afghanistan, but that did not work out during his reign  In which Afghanistan competes for the first places in the ranking of the most corrupt countries in international reports.

In its report, the French agency notes that Ghani shocked many Afghans in the 2014 elections by choosing General Abdul Rashid Dostum to run for the post of vice president, as the Uzbek warlord is accused of many human rights violations.

The agency concludes its report by saying about the man: Before his election as president, he had stated, "I do not intend to live a life of seclusion," but in the end he did the opposite, becoming more and more isolated in his palace, trusting a few of his aides.

The report of the French agency is remarkably similar to a report issued by the International Crisis Group in April of last year, which dealt in one of its chapters with the situation of President Hadi and the narrow circle that controls him.

Where the report likened President Hadi’s situation to that of Abdul-Malik al-Houthi, the leader of the Houthi group, stressing that he “remains isolated from the outside world,” referring to his residence in Riyadh since 2015, with the exception of short periods he spent in Aden and in a hospital in the United States.

The report said that Hadi relies on a small group of family members and political allies to act as his eyes and ears, stressing that this group controls access to him by the United Nations and foreign diplomatic missions.

The report added that the inner circle surrounding Hadi consists of allies from his hometown of Abyan in southern Yemen, including his two sons Nasser and Jalal, in addition to figures such as former Prime Minister Ahmed Obaid bin Daghr and Rashad Al-Alimi, in addition to a highly influential staff that includes members of the  reform party.

The report confirms that the task of this inner circle of Hadi, including many of the ministers, is to preserve Hadi's legitimate authority and the privileges they derive from his position.

According to the report, Vice President Ali Mohsen al-Ahmar and Defense Minister Muhammad al-Maqdashi, along with senior Saudi military officials, oversee military and security affairs focused in the northeast, Marib and Taiz, while Hadi’s son, Nasser, and other key allies of Abyan manage most of the military affairs.  and security in the south in coordination with them.

The convergence in behavior and performance between Hadi and Ghani, does not mean that Hadi is following the path of Ghani. Rather, it can be said that Ghani is the one who walked the path of Hadi. The scene of Ghani and Kabul in August 2020, is almost the same as Hadi’s scene in Sana’a, September 2014, when it fell into the hands of the Houthi group and Hadi fled  From them later, the same scene was repeated less than 6 months later in Aden, March 2015.

Perhaps the difference in the two scenes is that America and the West behind it are the ones who decided the end of Ghani and the experience of 20 years of betting on corruption and delusion, and decided to search for a way out, even at the expense of handing over the country to the Taliban, while the Arab coalition, specifically Saudi Arabia, is still giving life to Hadi’s legitimacy until this moment.  , with clear indications that it is following in America's footsteps in exiting the Yemeni scene without repeating the scene of Afghanistan.
