Sana'a, NewsYemen, private:

During the years of the war, which entered its seventh year, the tragic situation surrounded the most important scientific institution in the country (the university) after the Iranian arm took control of all its departments.

Academics are falling like fig leaf, as a natural result of a systematic policy taken by the militias as a goal to eliminate opponents of academics who do not belong to their sectarian project.

Seven years were enough to expose this group through dozens of stories, more than 110 university teachers who died from 2015 until 2021, each with his own story and tragedy.

And "Newsmen" had previously published a statistic about the number of teachers who died under torture, deprivation and psychological pressure only at Sana'a University.

The last victims..a lesson learned

Dr. Shawqi al-Ghail is a victim of corruption, the death of conscience and arrogance. With these words commented d. Akram Atran from Ibb University on the departure of al-Ghail.

He added, "Maybe we are used to the bitterness of the injustice of politicians and politics, but our injustice to each other above that injustice is, by God, the most bitter and cruel."

He concluded in the same context, "I will only mourn him with what Dr. Balqis Muhammad Alwan, the sister of the deceased's wife, called, who also wrote on her Facebook page:"

Dr.. Shawqi al-Ghail in the hospitality of God, and may God punish his oppressors, vowing that she will not be silent, and warning that everyone will fall one by one.

How did the story begin

After he had enough and fell ill to be transferred to the Republican Hospital, a public opinion statement was issued in his name while he was on his deathbed.

The message clarified all the painful and turning gray details. It stated:

Dr.. Shawqi, head of the Medical Equipment Department at Sana’a Community College, is one of the oldest academics in it, and he has a prominent role in equipping the department’s laboratories and workshops.

He was exposed to a health crisis due to severe pressures in his work, intransigence with the suspension of salary and financial benefits, and the failure to pay medical assistance. He was denied entry while he was in good health, which prompted him to give his lectures in the college setting.

unpaid years

He has been working for years with half a salary that he receives every four months. He has been suspended since Eid al-Adha and was not released until days before his death.

The apartment he promised was in the college building on Hale Street, where the same dean lived, knowing that he was from another university and had held his position at the community college for 8 months.

The current dean promised him to solve his problem and place him in the college dormitory. He issued a directive regarding the priority of placement and proved this in a record.

The dean of the college kept procrastinating, only to be surprised by a call telling him that the apartment he had promised would go to another teacher who had just returned from a scholarship abroad, so he took his family and entered the apartment.

The Dean informed the Saraf Police Department of the intrusion incident. Al-Ghail was summoned and the apartment door was inspected. They found that he had not been broken or dislodged. They looked at the papers, proved his eligibility to housing, and he was released.

The Deanship declares war on him

Then, according to the statement issued by the family of the deceased Shawqi al-Ghail, the deanship of the college declared a fierce war, preventing him from entering the residence and the college.

His family stayed inside the apartment for a week without food or water, except for what the neighbors offered. At that time, the deputy dean directed the gate guard not to allow him to even let a bear of water into the family of the deceased.

After more than a week, he was allowed to enter food and water for his children and to give his lectures in the college yard, the dean refused and allowed him to enter the college halls.

The deanship changed the college council, canceled the membership of Dr. Shawky, held an illegal meeting and issued a decision to vacate the apartment.

The matter reached the Ministry and the Executive Council of the Community College. He was allowed to enter his house’s furniture, and he obtained an explicit promise from the Deputy Minister that the apartment was his right of priority and seniority.

Request from Dr. Al-Ghail surrenders the key and leaves the apartment, leaving his furniture there until the completion of the formal procedures for handing over the apartment; To write a letter of apology to the Dean for entering the apartment.

Al-Ghail wrote the apology and handed it to the dean's office, then apologized to the dean face to face, and everything is documented and proven, and there are eyewitnesses.

The last moments of his life

Presenting d. Shawqi fell ill, his colleagues took him to the hospital and were warned that his high blood pressure of more than 170 had not come down three months ago.

After all these procedures, the brigadier insisted that he take out all his furniture and said, verbatim, do not leave even one spoon in the house.” This was rejected by al-Ghail, who insisted on his right to complete the housing procedures.

Between the Ministry, the Executive Office, and the Deanship, he kept trying unsuccessfully. The Dean's intransigence and insistence on eviction increased. He was prevented from entering a water tank, which was left at the gate and exposed to theft at any time.

He received threats to call the women's police to take out his wife, children and furniture, but he insisted on taking one of his rights.

At last, death stopped him

Thursday, September 16, Dr. Al-Ghail fell unconscious and was taken to the Republican Hospital in intensive care, and he is in a very critical condition.

These details came within a communication submitted to the public opinion, in which his family demanded, through the fixed documents witnessed by the college’s members, official papers and records, the ministry of the government of Iran’s arm in Sana’a and the Executive Council of Community Colleges, for the justice of the late and the accountability of those responsible for what happened to him until his death.
