Aden, NewsYemen, special:

A new economic study said that investing in development engines will pave the way for bottom-up, sustainable and equitable social and economic development in Yemen.

The study "Democratizing Development Drivers: Towards a New Approach for Yemen" confirmed that democratizing development drivers will improve relations and social cohesion in societies.

The study, issued by the Arabia Brain Trust, indicated that democratizing development engines will strengthen citizens' voices demanding transparency and accountability from government, legislative, judicial and executive authorities.

It will also reduce dependence on humanitarian aid and open a different path from the war economy to sustainable peace and the reintegration of Yemen into the regional and global economies.

According to the study, the synergies between four drivers (food production, renewable energy, financial services, ICT) and others including education, health services and logistics will generate momentum and confidence to rebuild the development process.

The study confirmed that switching to the use of renewable energy and linking Yemenis to a reliable and affordable internet service will lead to a record reduction in food prices, improve the value of the Yemeni riyal, enhance gross domestic product and create sustainable job opportunities.

She said that providing renewable energy and providing fast internet access to 100% of Yemenis within ten years should be a major economic goal for decision makers, because it will revolutionize the entire Yemeni economy and turn it into the forefront of economic development against even the most advanced countries.

She noted that Yemen has an opportunity to skip an entire generation of technology and move to the next generation of energy, internet connectivity, finance and food production.

She noted that the provision of energy and the Internet will have a profound and sustainable impact on growth in all economic sectors and will radically improve the quality of life for all Yemenis.

According to the study, the interrelationship of these motives with each other, and their relationship to other motives, will advance development in general.

For example, she gave: Electricity enhances agricultural production, and it also powers the Internet, and the Internet in turn will provide new ways for financial services, as it will provide access to information and markets for agricultural production, and food production generates income to pay for electricity and connection costs.
