Sana'a, NewsYemen:

Abdul-Malik al-Houthi, the leader of the Houthi militia, claimed that Yemeni society in the areas controlled by his group "needs continuous education on morals," while preparing for Houthi campaigns and new wars against Yemeni society under such pretexts.

Al-Houthi's questioning of the morals of society in Sana'a and the neighboring provinces came in a televised speech on Monday, March 13, 2023, to a number of mosque preachers loyal to the group.

Similar to official circulars, Abd al-Malik al-Houthi set general guidelines for the contents of Friday sermons during the month of Ramadan this year, instructing the preachers to abide by the directives of his group regarding the contents of the Friday sermon topics, without explaining too much and delving into what they do not know, or going beyond the limits of his knowledge."

Al-Houthi excluded the possibility of preachers using the sayings of the fourth caliph and companion, Ali bin Abi Talib, because they are among the sources from which the preacher can quote," as he put it.

Al-Houthi ignored the exacerbation of the suffering of the Yemenis in the areas under his control as a result of the continuous rise in prices of foodstuffs and oil derivatives, his group's looting of employees' salaries, and the increase in levies and royalties, prior to the month of Ramadan, considering that the preacher of the mosque should confront the enemies in their cultural war and their endeavor to corrupt the nation.

Al-Houthi claimed the existence of what he considered a "campaign targeting the nation even from within," and that this campaign aims to dilute and corrupt the nation and strip it of the spirit of responsibility and spirituality of faith."

He believes that those he described as enemies focus at this stage on targeting the nation in its morals, values, and chastity, and attempt to spread vice, corruption, evils, and abominations.” Thus, Al-Houthi concludes that society needs what he described as “a strong immunization against that,” directing in this context the Friday sermons loyal to his group, to educate society  reminding him, and protecting man from slipping into sins, vices, and corruption.”  as he put it.

Al-Houthi showed remarkable keenness to collect zakat in the month of Ramadan, and said that it is a great pillar of Islam, stressing the importance of reminding people of zakat as a very important issue, and claiming that violating it is dangerous for people in their religion and their world.
