Saudi Arabia intervenes to improve Al-Alimi's image in Hadramout

The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia intervened to improve the image of the President of the Presidential Leadership Council, Dr. Rashad Al-Alimi, in front of the people of Hadramout Governorate, who arrived on Saturday at the head of a high-ranking delegation, amid popular and political rejection of this visit.

The government agency, Saba, said that Al-Alimi unveiled, on Sunday, 20 projects and development programs in Hadramout governorate, which are being implemented and funded by the Saudi Program for the Development and Reconstruction of Yemen, at a cost of one billion and 200 million Saudi riyals.

The projects include interventions in the field of using renewable energy and improving the quality of life, including clean drinking water, achieving water security and enhancing rural resilience, restoring Sayun Palace, establishing and equipping the university hospital and cancer center at Hadramout University, expanding and rehabilitating the vital crossing road, and continuing support for the education sector from by establishing and equipping model schools in the cities of Mukalla and Seiyun, and printing textbooks, in addition to providing direct support to fishermen, and providing a number of medical evacuation vehicles and water tanks.

In this regard, the Governor of Hadramout, Mabkhout bin Madi, praised the support of the brothers in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia for development in the Hadramout Governorate, and their humanitarian interventions in various fields.

Meanwhile, Assistant Supervisor General of the Saudi Program for the Development and Reconstruction of Yemen, Hassan Al-Attas, affirmed the Kingdom's commitment to continuing to support the Yemeni people and their legitimate government, and to promote economic recovery and development in the country.

On Saturday, political and societal actors in Hadramout announced their rejection of Al-Alimi's visit to the governorate, while angry protesters tore down Al-Alimi's pictures and banners welcoming his visit, which were raised in a number of Hadramout streets.

Hadramout Alliance and Jama' bloc said, in a statement: "Rashad al-Alimi is not a welcome person in Hadramout, which during his reign witnessed an unprecedented level of marginalization and the deterioration of public services, especially electricity."

They pointed out that Rashad Al-Alimi does not see in Hadramout anything but a dairy cow, on whose bounties swarms of power locusts multiply without offering its people anything.

At a time when activists and politicians interacted with the hashtag "#Hadramout_rejects_alimi", which was launched on Twitter to express the opinion of the people of Hadramout on this visit.
