Al-Jawf, Newsyemen:

The Houthi militia, Iran's arm in Yemen, has closed hundreds of schools in Al-Jawf governorate, in a terror threatening to deprive more than 52,000 students of the right to education in the governorate that was the home of the ancient kingdom of Ma'in.

It was supposed to open 428 educational schools to students and start the new school year 2020-2021, but the Houthi militia, closed it and turned it into military barracks, according to official sources in the Ministry of Education of the legitimate government.

A recent government statement accused the Houthi militia of preventing teachers from fulfilling their noble mission, educating students in Al-Jawf governorate, withholding their salaries, and deducting 35% of their salaries paid by the legitimacy.

The statement issued by the Ministry of Education office in Al-Jawf strongly condemned the Houthi militia’s closure of the governorate’s schools and the transfer of some of them to military barracks to push students to fight with their ranks.

It explained that the Houthi militia displaced many educational cadres due to harassment and persecution, and looted the office and educational facilities and turned them into military barracks.

The Office of the Ministry of Education in Al-Jawf appealed to international and local organizations to condemn these practices and put pressure on the Houthi militia to stop its violations of the right to education in Al-Jawf and stop its support for all militia activities that fuel sectarian strife and extremist ideas.

He also called on parents of students and citizens in general to play their role and pressure to keep the educational process away from what distorts its course or harms it.
