كشفت مصادر سياسية يمنية رفيعة لـ«الشرق الأوسط» أن الحوثيين يضعون نصب أعينهم الاستيلاء على محافظتي تعز، ذات الكثافة السكانية، ومأرب النفطية والغازية، فيما أشار محافظ مأرب إلى أن مواطني المحافظة يرفضون وجود أي ميليشيات مسلحة من أي جهة كانت. وقال سلطان العرادة، محافظ مأرب لصحيفة «الشرق الأوسط» اللندنية، إنهم «في مأرب التي تمول معظم اليمن بالكهرباء، يحرصون كل الحرص على أن تبقى مأرب بعيدة عن الصراعات دون وجود أي ميلشيات من أي طرف كان، لكون مأرب تغذي اليمن بأكمله بالكهرباء والغاز والنفط». وأضاف العرادة أن «تركيبة مأرب القبلية لا تسمح بدخول أي ميليشيات من خارج المحافظة ولا تقبل أي نوع من الميليشيات من أي نوع كان»، وأكد المحافظ العرادة أنه يوجد لديهم في مأرب وحدات عسكرية وأمنية تقوم بواجبها على أكمل وجه لحفظ الأمن والاستقرار في المحافظة، رغم وجود بعض الأحداث الطفيفة التي لا يخلو منها أي مجتمع. ونفى محافظ مأرب وجود أي معسكرات لتنظيم القاعدة في مأرب، لكنه أكد وجود بعض العناصر الموالين فقط والذين لا يشكلون أي أهمية، وأردف أن «الوحدات الأمنية والعسكرية والأمنية موجودة في مأرب لحماية المنشآت النفطية والغازية بالتعاون مع الشرفات من المواطنين».
