The United Nations has stated that nearly two thirds of the population in Yemen needs help and support to meet their basic water and sanitation needs.

It added that with a group of humanitarian partners, it reached more than 11 million people in the affected areas with aid that enables access to clean water during the past year 2019.

On the other hand, the UN envoy to Yemen Martin Griffiths said earlier that the need is necessary for the release of all prisoners and detainees against the background of the conflict in Yemen in accordance with the obligations of the parties, explaining that this will come through a prisoner exchange agreement and that the matter is more urgent because of the threat of "Corona virus".

He stressed that all parties must take the necessary measures to expedite the release of the prisoners and allow them to return to their homes safely.

He did not mention the obligations that can be imposed on these parties, especially the Houthi revolutionary militia, to release thousands of prisoners and detainees in its prisons.

Regarding the on going fights in Al-Jawf and Ma'rib governorates, despite decisions to stop them by the United Nations and the UN Security Council, Griffiths expressed his concern about the ongoing military campaigns there.

This came through his recent briefing to the Security Council, indicating in his report that this had a severe impact on the lives of civilians and peace opportunities.

He also reiterated his call to the parties to work with his office to adopt a publicly accountable mechanism to reduce escalation at the urgent level in Yemen.

To that, the United Nations has condemned the destabilization of peace and security in many governorates, including Taiz Governorate, as it condemned the firing of two shells at the Al-Thawra Hospital in Taiz on March 13.

Lastly, he stressed that the killing of two workers of the "Emirates Red Crescent" team in Aden brutally during the past week, after they have been kidnapped last Wednesday, is the continuation of violence and lawlessness; without finding binding solutions from all actors in Yemen, including the United Nations itself and the International Security Council.
