Aden, NewsYemen:

Parliament Speaker Sultan Al-Barakani warned, on Sunday, that "the continuation of the war will lead to a major humanitarian, environmental and economic catastrophe that will affect all parts of Yemen, especially if oil and gas installations are subjected to Houthi terrorist acts," as he put it.

This came during his meeting with the UN special envoy to Yemen, Martin Griffiths, through a video call, in which he discussed urgent steps to stop the devastating war in the governorate of Ma'rib and efforts to solve the Yemeni crisis, according to the agency "Saba".

Al-Barakani expressed his hope that the efforts of the UN envoy to stop the war in Marib, in the north-east of the country, will be crowned with success, and to achieve urgent and positive results that affect the Yemeni people, "far from the statements and denunciations that the Houthi militia deals with with disregard and disdain."

Al-Barakani stressed that "the ongoing war in Marib puts the credibility of the United Nations at stake, especially since there are hundreds of victims who fall daily as a result of the war waged by these militias against the population, displaced and safe people in the governorate, and turned it into a sea of blood."

He stressed that talking about peace in Yemen in light of the war and the Houthi escalation will not achieve the desired results.

Al-Barakani renewed the legitimate government’s welcoming of efforts to achieve peace and its keenness to end the Yemeni crisis and its positive handling of all initiatives aimed at that, the latest of which is the Saudi initiative.

He stressed that the Houthi militia rejects all initiatives, breaks all agreements, and undermines all international efforts in this aspect.

For his part, the UN special envoy to Yemen, Martin Griffiths, confirmed that he is discussing with all parties to the conflict stopping the war in Marib, and protecting the population and the displaced.

He said that the United Nations rejects all forms of military actions carried out by the Houthis and is aware of the risks that will result from these military actions and what the population and displaced people will be exposed to in Marib.
