Aden, NewsYemen:

The President of the Presidential Leadership Council, Rashad Al-Alimi, listened to a report on the ongoing preparations to launch work on the strategic Hassan Dam project in Abyan Governorate (southern Yemen), at a cost of $78 million, funded by the United Arab Emirates.

According to the official Yemeni News Agency (Saba), Al-Alimi met in Aden with the Minister of Agriculture, Irrigation and Fish Resources, Salem Al-Soqtari, and listened to a report on the ongoing preparations to launch work on the strategic project.

The agency indicated, "The cost of the first phase of the dam amounts to 78 million dollars, funded by the brothers in the United Arab Emirates through the Abu Dhabi Fund."

The Minister of Agriculture, Irrigation and Fisheries noted the strategic importance represented by this vital project in bringing about a qualitative agricultural shift in Abyan, irrigating more than ten thousand acres of agricultural land, as well as reducing disasters left by rain and torrential waters, as well as raising the groundwater level in Abyan governorate and the capital, Aden.

In November last year, Yemen and the United Arab Emirates signed an agreement to construct the strategic Hassan Dam, provided that work on building the dam will begin in February.
