English - Sunday 04 June 2023 الساعة 07:18 pmParliamentarians in Sana'a, which is under the control of the Houthi militia - the Iranian arm in Yemen - acknowledged the existence of widespread corruption in all government institutions and service sectors, in the context of the Houthis' systematic targeting of the structure of the Yemeni state.
The Houthi version of the "Saba" agency quoted reports issued by parliamentarians affiliated with the group in Sana'a, indicating the existence of an endless series of organized Houthi corruption practices that gnaw through the hijacked institutions.
Houthi corruption affected all Yemeni government sectors, starting with water and the environment, electricity and energy, and cooking gas, all the way to the judiciary, justice, endowments, the newly created Zakat Authority, and others.
A recent report issued by the parliament under the control of the Houthis acknowledged the existence of crimes of corruption and deliberate theft of public money in the water and environment sector, referring to the frequent interruptions of drinking water and the group's continued disregard for modernizing and maintaining water networks to avoid interruptions, in addition to not setting a unified and appropriate price that takes into account living conditions. for Yemenis.
Representative Ahmed Saif Hashed confirmed that the Houthi militia added illegal amounts to water bills, based on orders issued by the head of the so-called Supreme Political Council, Mahdi Al-Mashat.
The report acknowledged that the Houthi militia committed a package of constitutional and legal violations with regard to the establishment of private power stations for the generation and distribution of energy to consumers, referring to the establishment of dozens of stations through merchants loyal to them in violating ways and is not subject to the campaigns of oppression that constantly affects the owners of generators who are not loyal to them.
With regard to the new Zakat Authority, whose resources the militia continues to harness for the benefit of followers from the families of the dead, wounded, and prisoners, to the exclusion of other poor and needy Yemenis, Sana’a deputies accused in discussion sessions those in charge of the authority of continuing to impose illegal sums of money on owners of small shops, sidewalk sellers, and street vendors, in addition to To impose illegal amounts on sales of land and real estate that are sold for non-commercial purposes.
The deputies emphasized that the Houthi militia does not focus while disbursing zakat resources on the poor and the needy, as they are the first zakat banks to alleviate their suffering, and to conduct an accurate survey of these two tranches, classify them, and cover what is necessary.
They called on the Houthi government to oblige the bodies created by the militias, including the "Awqaf and Zakat" bodies, to abide by the constitution and the laws in force with regard to financial, administrative and other aspects.
As for the "judiciary", which the Houthis turned into a means to pass their agenda and rob the property of Yemenis in their areas of control, the deputies spoke, in the context of their discussions, about the absence of justice and fairness in most, if not all, judicial institutions under the control of the Houthis, stressing the group's failure to do justice to citizens and resolve all their issues.
