Al-Zubaidi: We will not issue a unilateral declaration of the independence of the south and our agreement with the GNA to confront Al-Houthi
English - Thursday 22 June 2023 الساعة 05:25 pmPresident of the Southern Transitional Council, Aidaroos Al-Zubaidi, affirmed that the Council will not issue a unilateral declaration of the independence of the south and will achieve this through a peace process under international supervision, indicating the commitment of the Transitional Council to respect international laws and covenants on the path of the aspirations of the people of the south.
This came during a review of the vision of the Transitional Council at a symposium hosted by the British Royal Institute Chatham House on the Yemeni crisis.
Al-Zubaidi referred to the great political, economic and humanitarian challenges facing the Presidential Council, and regarding the different projects, he said, "We in the Presidential Council agree to confront Al-Houthi, but each of us has his own program."
Al-Zubaidi stressed the STC's refusal to use religion as a political umbrella, pointing out that extremism is alien to southern society.
He said that the transitional government pursues a moderate civil policy and has a purely national belief, referring to the confrontations that the southern forces are waging against the Houthi militia and extremist terrorist organizations based on their national belief.
Al-Zubaidi revealed that he had received an offer to lead Yemen, but he refused, because he was looking for a homeland issue, not an authority.
During his speech, Al-Zubaidi touched on the "Hadramawt National Council", which was announced last Tuesday in the Saudi capital, Riyadh, and said, "We do not have any details about the entity that established the entity in Hadramout, but we will continue the dialogue with all components."
Al-Zubaidi acknowledged the inability of the current government and its inability to carry out its tasks to a minimum, pointing out that the Presidency Council initially accomplished some reforms in the judicial apparatus, but it faces many difficulties after the Houthis targeted oil facilities in Shabwa and Hadramout.
The US envoy to Yemen, Leander King, and a number of researchers will participate in the symposium.
